Description
If you EVER get close to Shiprock, NM, this is the place to go as a photographer, you can drive right up to the base and most the way around it. The "small" peak at the bottom right is a separate HUGE rock about 7 stories high. It would be best if you have a 4WD vehicle as some of the "road" gets a little soft, not a good place to get stuck.

Thanks again Jerry, Shiprock is in the Navajo Nation and you can Google search it for more information the lava walls formed when Shiprock was an active volcano.

Thank you Zulfiya. It was awesome to get right up to it. The rocks you can see at the base are HUGE boulders

Thank you Cassondra , I'm having a blast and it is just the beginning of traveling the beautiful USA. I'm trying to stay off the beaten trail. Hopefully Carlsbad Caverns tomorrow. I'll be posting more of the trip everyday.

Thank you Judy and Marilyn. Marilyn if you go once you get off the pavement you will drive several miles on rough "road", but not unbearable , I suggest a 4WD (which I didn't have)and you wouldn't have a worry. If you get the chance again go on back because it is AMAZING to stand there next to it..

Beautiful shot, George! We've been past it several times but never got that "up close and personal"! voted.

Thanks Craig, I don't think I will be driving to the state you live, but I would if I could. My brother was stationed there in the Navy on a Sub. He loved it.
